A sporty lifestyle keeps this Valley news anchor trim and camera-ready.
Javier Soto sets his alarm at 2 am to get to his job as 3TV’s Good Morning Arizona anchor and reporter. “You never get used to it,” he admits. But the Cal State Long Beach grad who “always talked too much and asked too many questions” still manages to look fit and healthy despite his pre-dawn hours, thanks to a lifelong love of sports and exercise that included football, wrestling and baseball in high school; a stint as a personal trainer; and snowboarding at Arizona Snowbowl when he first joined 3TV in 2004 as a reporter for their Flagstaff bureau. These days, he tries to work out daily and get to bed by 9:30 pm. “It keeps you feeling young.”
GROOMING SQUAD
THE WORKOUT
“I go to several gyms, but Simply Cardio is for people short on time. It’s the most intense 30 minutes I’ve ever experienced.”
THE HAIR
“Mane Attraction Salon takes care of a lot of us TV people. They’re amazing.”
THE HEALTHY MEAL
“I love ProteinHouse. The menu is designed for the fitness lifestyle. Smoothies are fantastic, and I like the burgers and pancakes too.”
THE TAILOR
“Markel’s Tailoring [& Ace Shoe Repair] (602.248.9050) keeps me looking sharp. He takes care of my suits.”
THE MILLION-DOLLAR SMILE
Soto takes his pearly whites to Casa Grande Family Dentistry. Why there? “It’s literally family. My aunt is the office manager.”
1. “This adds a little shine, plus hold. I use their shampoo too.” Forming Cream, from $11.50
2. “I wear a lot of different sunglasses, but Ray-Ban Aviator Classics are definitely my go-to pair.” $150, at Sunglass Hut, Scottsdale Quarter, 15147 N. Scottsdale road, Ste. H-110, Scottsdale
3. “I drink Smartwater all the time. I’m hoping one day it will work—make me smarter, that is!” $1.69
4. “This moisturizer is made with activated charcoal, which is supposed to remove toxins, and has sunscreen too.”
